About Us
Fifth-generation Cunnamulla local. Heritage hotel rebuilt from the ground up.
Cunnamulla, QLD
A heritage stay, rebuilt with care
The original Club Hotel hosted royalty and became a gathering place for shearers, station hands, and travellers along the Warrego River System. A cyclone destroyed it in 1892. Its replacement a stunning building by all accounts burned down on St Patrick’s Day 1933. The building that replaced it in 1934 stood for decades before falling derelict.
Peieta Mills, a fifth-generation Cunnamulla local, purchased the abandoned hotel to give her tourism business — Out the Back Australia Tours — a home base. What followed was a full transformation: a closed building became a modern boutique hotel that still carries the character and soul of the original.
With my business I was outsourcing the accommodation component. So I threw my confidence further into outback tourism and took the next step. I bought the closed Club Hotel.
Peieta Mills, Queensland Country Life
The hotel today includes heritage suites inside the 1934 building, glamping tents in the rear Packsaddle Garden, a restaurant, a bar pouring locally brewed craft beers, a Day Spa built on artesian water and native botanicals, and spaces for weddings, corporate events, and celebrations.
Everything at Club Boutique Hotel supports local. Local farmers supply the kitchen. Local businesses rely on on the tourists we bring in. Local musicians perform in the restaurant and garden. Local guides lead tours through the outback country that surrounds Cunnamulla and the greater South West Queensland region.
